Pressure converter
This pressure converter changes pascals, kilopascals, megapascals, bar, atmospheres, psi, mmHg and kgf/cm². Enter a value and its starting unit to see the selected result and every supported equivalent.
The calculation first converts the input to pascals using full factors. Only the displayed value is rounded, so the conversion does not lose precision at an intermediate step.

Pascals, kilopascals, megapascals and bar
The pascal is the SI unit of pressure: 1 Pa is one newton per square metre. The general conversion formula is p₂ = p₁ × f₁ ÷ f₂, where each factor is the number of pascals in that unit.
Kilo- and mega- represent exact powers of ten. The bar also has an exact definition: 1 bar = 100,000 Pa = 100 kPa = 0.1 MPa.
| Unit | In pascals | Equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hectopascal (hPa) | 100 Pa | 1 mbar |
| 1 kilopascal (kPa) | 1,000 Pa | 10 hPa |
| 1 bar | 100,000 Pa | 100 kPa = 0.1 MPa |
| 1 megapascal (MPa) | 1,000,000 Pa | 10 bar |
| 1 standard atmosphere | 101,325 Pa | 1.01325 bar |
MPa to kgf/cm²
Kilogram-force is defined using standard gravity of 9.80665 m/s². It follows that 1 kgf/cm² = 98,066.5 Pa = 0.0980665 MPa = 0.980665 bar under that definition.
Multiply MPa by 10.197162129779… to obtain kgf/cm². For example, 2.5 MPa ≈ 25.4929 kgf/cm². In the other direction, multiply kgf/cm² by 0.0980665, so 10 kgf/cm² = 0.980665 MPa.
| Conversion | Result |
|---|---|
| 1 MPa to kgf/cm² | ≈ 10.197162 kgf/cm² |
| 5 MPa to kgf/cm² | ≈ 50.985811 kgf/cm² |
| 1 kgf/cm² to MPa | 0.0980665 MPa |
| 10 kgf/cm² to bar | 9.80665 bar |
PSI to bar and bar to PSI
PSI means pound-force per square inch. The international pound and inch have exact metric definitions, which gives 1 psi = 6,894.757293168… Pa = 0.06894757293168… bar.
Multiply psi by 0.06894757293168 to get bar. For example, 32 psi ≈ 2.206322 bar. Multiply bar by 14.503773773… for psi, so 2 bar ≈ 29.00755 psi.
| Value | Equivalent |
|---|---|
| 1 psi | ≈ 6.894757 kPa |
| 10 psi | ≈ 0.689476 bar |
| 1 bar | ≈ 14.503774 psi |
| 100 kPa | 1 bar ≈ 14.503774 psi |
Millimeters of mercury and torr
The conventional millimetre of mercury uses 1 mmHg = 133.322387415 Pa at standard gravity. For example, 120 mmHg ≈ 15.998686 kPa. This is a unit conversion only and does not interpret a medical reading.
The torr is defined as 1/760 of a standard atmosphere: 1 Torr = 101,325 ÷ 760 Pa = 133.322368421… Pa. Everyday tables often treat Torr and mmHg as equal, but their strict factors differ slightly, so the converter keeps them as separate units.
- mmHg to pascals: multiply by 133.322387415.
- Pascals to mmHg: divide by 133.322387415.
- 760 Torr = 1 standard atmosphere = exactly 101,325 Pa.
- 1 hPa = 1 mbar = 100 Pa; the two names represent the same unit size.
