Mulch and Soil Calculator

Find soil or mulch volume and bag count from bed area, layer depth, and bag volume.

Bags
8
Volume
400 L
Volume in cubic meters
0.4 m³

How the calculation works

Liters = area in m² × depth in cm × 10 × (1 + allowance/100). Bags = liters/liters per bag, rounded up.

Inputs

  • Bed area, m²
  • Layer depth, cm
  • Bag volume, L
  • Allowance, %

Calculation details

An 8 m² bed with a 5 cm layer requires 400 L, or 0.4 m³, before allowance. At 50 L per bag this is 8 bags.

Enter the usable bed area. Soil and mulch settle differently, so choose an allowance appropriate to the product and supplier guidance.
