Fence Calculator
Estimate bays, posts, and cost for a straight fence run from its length and maximum bay width.
- Bays
- 8
- Posts
- 9
- Actual spacing
- 2.5 m
- Cost
- 1,070
How the calculation works
Bays = ceil(length/maximum bay width). Posts = bays + 1. Actual spacing = length/bays.
Inputs
- Fence length, m
- Maximum bay width, m
- Price per bay
- Price per post
Calculation details
A straight 20 m run with bays no wider than 2.5 m requires 8 bays and 9 posts. Cost combines the prices of bays and posts.
This models an open, straight run without gates. Corners, gates, and closed loops change the post count; split the fence into runs and count shared posts once.
