How to calculate the days until a date
A countdown subtracts the start date from the event date. Both are treated as the start of their calendar day, and the difference in milliseconds is divided by 86,400,000, the number of milliseconds in one 24-hour day.
For example, 30 calendar days pass from September 1 to October 1, 2026. Matching start and end dates return zero because the event date has arrived. When the target is earlier, the calculator labels the answer as days since that date.
Which days the countdown includes
A standard date difference does not count the start as a completed day. One day passes from August 1 to August 2, and nine days pass from August 1 to August 10. The countdown reaches zero on the target date itself.
This convention answers “how long until the date?” An official period may include both endpoints under a contract or local rule, so a general countdown should not be treated as a legal deadline calculation.
Calendar days and business days
- Calendar days run continuously and include Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
- Business days here mean Monday through Friday. The start date is excluded and the target date is included when it falls on a weekday.
- Public holidays, observed holidays, and regional calendars are not applied. Check the relevant official calendar before relying on the answer for a formal deadline.
- The weeks-and-days result is the calendar difference divided into groups of seven; it does not count named Monday-to-Sunday calendar weeks.
Finding a date after a number of days
In “Date after N days” mode, calendar days are added directly to the start. Ten calendar days after March 1 is March 11 because March 1 is the zero point rather than day one.
When adding business days, Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Five business days after a Monday lands on the following Monday. The same mode can find a date 30 or 45 business days ahead, but public holidays still need a separate check.

Why daylight saving time does not change the answer
The calculator works with dates without clock times and evaluates them on one consistent timeline. A daylight-saving change therefore cannot turn a calendar day into 23 or 25 hours in this result.
If an event has an exact time and participants are in different time zones, convert that time to your zone first. This page counts whole dates rather than hours remaining.

Does the countdown include today?
